Space Exploration Federation

The hurdle space agencies have to jump over is always politics. Self-interested assholes who know nothing about space, much less exploration itself, and are in charge of the agencies’ budgets. Luckily, NASA was one of the few that got an increase this time around, but unfortunately they have to do whatever that tool says, which is the ‘Moon, Mars, and Beyond’ shit. Humans won’t get to Mars anytime soon, and I think our best option is to robotically explore our system, as there are still more surprises left to be uncovered. Yes, robots are better at space exploration than humans, by far. Mostly due to the fact that they don’t breathe (and everything that that implies, which is a staggering amount of disadvantages… puny humans).

I think we ought to do an expedition to uncover our oceans first, but after that the way to space is with robotic legs. By that I mean sending out more probes, develop better ways of getting up there (rail guns cradled in mountains would be a start), establish robotic resource bases on Luna, and I think our ultimate goal should not be Mars, but rather the asteroid belt. So many resources there that will give us what we need to push even further. Mercury is composed of mostly metal, and you know how we all love metal, so Mercury is definitely a place to go.

With so many different points of reference we can formulate accurate sciences to explain how the universe works, which will in turn improve our quality of life… compared to the past, at least.

But we can’t. Not with those politicals in the way. A federation should be created, whose sole purpose is to give any space agency the chance to do cool stuff, and make sure someone else hasn’t already done it. Which means sharing information on their discoveries. And it will be in charge of setting standards for all the agencies (such as making the metric system universal, you know, just in case they get confused). It should be able to spank an agency’s respective government and make it cough up a set percentage of its income. It should give rewards to the nation with the most successful agency, probably a good sum of cash that was donated to it by the People of Earth. This Federation does not make laws, it protects government funded organizations from being pissed on by their daddies. Enforcing the advancement of human progress is a goal everyone will benefit from. And it will take away some of the power that bureaucrats hold over people. I fucking hate those old geezers.

What would entice nations to join? Besides the cash rewards, it’ll make citizens happy, because they’ll believe (correctly) that their nation is actually doing something really useful and nice. High morale is the key to a peaceful nation. Internally peaceful I mean. As in, no riots and shit. They’ll still wage war against other nations though (but maybe not among SEF members?). That’s just the way humans do things. Blah.
